Project 6 Catalog Essay
Artist: Ted Meyer
Curatorial Team: Daniel Kim, Miguel Tello, Ashley Ortiz

Introduction:
Ted Meyer: Imagine being sick as a little boy. Your whole world has come down on you and you feel nothing but pain. One thing he turned to was art to express his pain, experience, or feelings. His childhood of being sick has inspired him on his works. From that point on his work has influence Ted Meyer to photography, writing, painting, and the famous scar for life pieces. He is truly and inspiration to the many people who have had a chance to meet him.

Curator's statement:
Each type of work he is involve in is very meaning full. His paintings grab audiences attention and they  show a story or idea in the eyes of Ted Meyer. This is also true with his photography work and scar for life pieces. His scar for life works are really interesting because he expresses the image of body in many different forms, though most on the medical condition of the human body. Ted’s work of scar marks is especially appealing because it is something that we do not usually see and something people do not want to show to others. The scar for life shows that scars are beautiful. They also show the struggle that the person has went through when losing a finger, going though a heart transplant, brain cancer, spine damage, Pancreatic Cancer, breast cancer etc. It shows the good that comes out of physical suffering. It reflects the beauty of what the person has went through, by making something beautiful from something that wasn't before. It shows that beauty can come from bad things.

About Ted Meyer:
Ted started painting when he received a paint and paint brush as a present. Since then, He painted images of body as well as doing other works with the bodies. Not only does he paint, but he also writes, takes photography, and does his unique work with scar marks.Much of Ted’s work has been influenced by his dealings with the health care system and his own health problems. Born with Gaucher’s disease, often his earlier works depict contorted, pained and highly designed skeletal images. This series titled “Structural Abnormalities” was initially created in the months before his first round of hip replacements.Time has passed and with advent of new treatments and additional joint replacements Ted considers himself normal and healthy.

“ all my work is body based because I was sick as a kid”

About Ted Meyer/ Forming Culture Project:
The General idea for the project it too express all the types of art he is associated with and present it in a gallery. He is known for the scar for life pieces, photography, paintings, book writing, and so much more. He is truly an amazing person and our goal is to try and show of his wonderful work. The gallery will describe Ted Meyer’s struggles, thoughts, inspirations, and motives describing his reasons for working with art. The gallery will be sort of a time line, which shows how his children hood plays a immense part of his inspirations as an early painter. This will some how be the first thing that will be seen when entering the gallery. From there we will branch it off to the other works he is associated with since his childhood feeds those first ideas. We will describe how each line of work got started and how it plays a role on the images he expresses through that particular piece. Overall, The gallery will show the person he is and what type of art he has fueled.   Another idea for this project is to create a hospital full of Ted Meyers scar art. Hospitals have always looked  depressing. The reason the only use certain color is because certain colors trigger certain emotions.
